5 Things You Can’t Miss in Noosa
So, you’ve booked yourself a holiday at one of the hottest holiday spots in Australia? We’re not surprised, Noosa is one of the fastest growing tourism destinations in Queensland. We are huge fans of this beautiful part of the country. It has everything to offer a tourist or resident – beautiful views, fantastic weather, a pristine environment and an excellent community. We enjoy living and working here, and we’re always happy to see more people come and enjoy this charming little corner of the world. We’ve put together a very short list of a few of the things we think you should take some time for next time you’re up our way.
If there’s one thing that you need to enjoy while you’re in Noosa, it’s the beautiful ocean views. Whether you’re staying right amongst it in waterfront accommodation or you’ve found some of Noosa’s great river accommodation, you owe it to yourself to get out there and soak up some of that salty spray.
Noosa has some of the best ocean views in Queensland. There’s no need to take our word for it, though. Get down to Noosa Main Beach and spend a few hours soaking it up for yourself. Or duck around to Sunshine Beach and enjoy things on the other side of Noosa Heads.
We understand surfing isn’t for everyone, but how will you know if you don’t try? This is one of Australia’s great pastimes, you owe it to yourself to try it at least once. Noosa has a number of surfing instructors that provide lessons in safety and skill, and with a little bit of diligence (and possibly some natural talent) you’ll be standing up in no time.
Noosa is a popular spot for surfing lessons. It may not be on the roster of the world’s greatest surfers, but it’s perfect for a beginner to get their legs under them. If you have a couple of hours spare during your Noosa holiday, definitely put this on the agenda. You can organize surfing lessons right from the doorstep of your Noosa river accommodation, although you’ll need to venture into the ocean for the lesson itself.
The Noosa Triathlon is one of the biggest annual events on the Sunshine Coast. It draws competitors from across Australia and even several international entrants each year. It’s been growing in popularity rapidly recently and has turned into a tourism attraction in its own right.
The Noosa Triathlon is on the final day of a five-day sporting festival, which means you can plan an entire holiday around the event (something that many do). You’ll want to plan ahead though. There is always a rush for triathlon accommodation. The waterfront goes first, followed by apartments along the main street of Noosa, and then the river accommodation.
Food and Drink
It may not be a massive urban metropolis, but Noosa’s food and drink can step into the ring with the best of them. There is a whole world of culinary delights awaiting the intrepid explorer who sets out in the evening willing to try anything. Noosa has a fantastic selection of bars and restaurants along Hastings Street, with a couple of great spots off the main drag.
If you’re staying up on Noosa Hill, it’s absolutely worth taking an evening stroll down into Noosa itself for a dinner or getting up early to get some sunshine and a breakfast overlooking the ocean. If you’re staying in river accommodation, it’s not too long a walk, and always worth it in the end.
Noosa has a number of outstanding hiking trails. You’ll need to drive out of town for some of them, but there are great spots in Noosa National Park in and around Noosa Hill. In fact, there is a great spot for a hike within walking distance of just about anywhere in Noosa, whether you’re staying in river accommodation or right on the beach.
Take the opportunity to make a day trip out to Mt Tinbeerwah Lookout, or enjoy a wander around some of the smaller, local tracks. Ask some of the locals who look like they get out and about a little – they’ll be more than happy to point you in the right direction.
There is a mountain of things to do in Noosa; we’ve barely scratched the surface here. Couples massages, face masks, fishing charters, gondolas, paddleboarding, kitesurfing, kayaking and more – there is plenty to get your head around, and loads of things you can do to fill your days.
